As we gear up for the Nationals, Outsiders testing in the 410 class were Sammy Swindell, Rico Abreu, Austen Wheatley, Jac Haudenschild, Brady Bacon, Bryan Clauson, and Jon Agan was racing in a 410 for the first time this season.
410 Report
Top 10 Qualifying: Brian Brown was quick time followed by McCarl, Jeffrey, Swindell, Lasoski, Agan, Wood, Dollansky, Dobmeier, Maeschen.
Heat winners were Brown (started 6th), Clint Garner (2nd), Sam Hafertepe Jr. (1st) and Davey Heskin (3rd). Brian Brown won his heat race from the third row for the second week in a row. He has the heat race setup figured out.
The B-Main was stacked again this week with Lasoski, McCarl, Swindell, Tatnell, Abreu, Selvage, Cole Wood, Schneiderman, and Jac. The heat races were intense with a six invert and only taking five to the A-Main.
After qualifying 11th and 12th, Dusty Zomer and Ian
Madsen started on the front row of the A-Main. Zomer would lead laps one and
two before Madsen drove around to grab the lead. This race turned in a 55
minute affair with four red flags and one caution. The crashes were all violent
- scary moments.
The first red was for Austin Wheatley who crashed down the front stretch and almost cleared the inside fence near victory lane. Cole Wood crashed hard in turn one. There was a three car crash involving Lynton Jeffrey, Jon Agan, and Dakota Hendrickson. Agan had a good night going qualifying well and holding off McCarl for the transfer spot in the heat race. Agan had a new car out for the first time and the roll cage broke on the left side. Luckily Jon only had injuries to his arm, was treated at the hospital and released. It is up in the air if Jon will be able to race this week in the 360 Nationals.
The last crash was Brian Brown, who was on a rail all night with quick time, winning his heat race, and was sitting second place in points at the conclusion of the heat races. He started eighth in the A-Main and was making a pass for the lead when he jumped the inside berm going into turn three and lost control sending him spinning into the turn three fence. Brown was OK, but he got his bell rung.
Zomer and Madsen dueled to the end in a great race while Lasoski came from 21st to fifth, Henderson 20th to eighth, Hafertepe 18th to tenth, Tatnell 24th to eleventh.
McCarl coasted to a stop on lap five and his crew was not
able to get it fired after changing the ignition box, ending his night. If Brown would have won the A, he would have
been within ten points of McCarl for the lead. The first red was for Austin Wheatley who crashed down the front stretch and almost cleared the inside fence near victory lane. 360 Report
Joe Beaver set quick time followed by Sheldon Haudenschild, Nate Van Haaften, Jamie Ball, Calvin Landis, Justin Henderson, Matt Covington, Tony Bruce Jr., Dylan Peterson, and Josh Baughman. Brown timed 14th and then scratched for the night.
Heat winners were Sawyer Phillips (started 2nd), Justin Henderson (5th), Jarrod Schneiderman (1st), Brooke Tatnell (2nd).
With Henderson starting in the front two rows it was hard to bet against him. Baughman led the first 11 circuits before Henderson tracked him down. Baughman looked good in his second consecutive week at Knoxville. Landis had his best finish of the season with a third. Herrera and Jason Johnson timed poorly but rallied to charge up through the field.

Notes
The 410 points battle is TIGHT and the Capitani Classic is more important than ever! The Capitani Classic is still a point race, similar to World of Outlaws shows. All teams receive 150 show up points, but any points earned over that you get to add to your total. With 360 points up for grabs each night, it’s going to be intense. Just making the A-Main of the Capitani Classic is tough. 81 cars entered last year, and every Outlaws team was there except for the 15, 11, and 11K. I would expect the same turnout against this year.
BREAKING NEWS: Sammy Swindell has just entered the 360
Nationals thanks to Al Parker providing him with an engine.
I can’t wait for it all to start on Thursday night. 360 Nationals is usually better racing than the 410 Nationals. Sunday is the Capitani Classic, then the Front Row Challenge on Monday, and a day to breathe on Tuesday, unless you have to cover the 40th annual Nationals Queen Contest like I will be.
